Connect your Xero account
Connect Xero in Settings and allow read-only access. PORTALD can read contacts, invoices and money received, and can't change a thing.

Match your customers
Match each customer to their Xero contact, with a suggestion from their name or email. Or use Bring customers in from Xero to add them in one go, already matched.

Invite them
Send each customer an email invite to your portal. When you bring customers in from Xero, you can invite them at the same time.

What is a customer invoice portal?
It is a place where customers sign in to view their own invoices, check outstanding balances and download copies. PORTALD reads those invoices from your Xero account and shows them in a portal with your business branding.
Is this an online invoicing portal for creating or paying invoices?
PORTALD is for viewing and downloading invoices. Create and manage invoices in Xero, and collect payment through your existing payment method. Customers can see Due, Overdue and Paid statuses in PORTALD, but cannot create invoices or pay through it.
Do my customers need a Xero login?
No. They sign in to your portal with their email address and the password they chose when they accepted your invite. PORTALD reads their invoices from your Xero account for them.
Can customers get a copy of an old or paid invoice?
Yes. Invoices awaiting payment and paid invoices from your Xero account stay in their list, however old, and they can download the PDF of any of them. PORTALD fetches the PDF from Xero when they ask for it, so it matches the invoice in Xero.
Can customers get a receipt for a paid invoice?
PORTALD doesn't make separate receipts. A paid invoice is marked Paid in their portal with nothing left to pay, and they can download its PDF from your Xero account whenever they need proof.
Can customers pay through the portal?
Not at the moment. They pay you the way they do now. An unpaid invoice in the portal asks them to contact you about paying and shows your email address.
Will PORTALD change anything in Xero?
No. PORTALD asks Xero for read-only access to contacts, invoices and money received, so it can't create, edit or delete anything in your Xero account. It reads invoices when a page is opened and doesn't keep copies of them.
Which customers see which invoices?
Each customer only sees invoices for the Xero contact you matched them to, and only after signing in. A customer you haven't matched sees no invoices at all.
What happens if I disconnect Xero?
Invoices stop showing in your portal straight away, and PORTALD removes its access and your customer matches. Nothing changes in Xero, and checklists, files and the rest of the portal carry on as normal.
Does the Xero connection cost extra?
No. It's included in every plan, and you can try it during your 14-day free trial.
Is PORTALD made by Xero?
No. PORTALD is independent software run by IT BOFFINS LTD, a UK company. It only reads from your Xero account once you connect it.
